Week #5

RUNNING RECORD:
Assignment #3:
You can view my running record here!
This young girl reads great. Her fluency and understanding is fantastic!
She repeated some words, and added the word 'the' twice, which proves her understanding of the reading. According to the ELA standards, she's on par. She was able to analyze and comprehend the full meaning of the text, and the meaning of the words/phrases in the reading. She did not however know the author's point of view.
Next lesson I would advance to a reading on a higher level, with some more complicated words and more complex meaning, to see where she's holding with pronouncing harder words, and a reading with multifaceted meanings.
Firstly, I would start with a game to get my student involved and excited! She'll have to spot five words within one timed minute, that she either cannot pronounce correctly, or does not know the meaning. When the timer beeps, she'll circle all those words, and try to sound them out, and/or understand their meaning. Then, she'll start the actual reading. When she reaches any of those circled words, she'll see if the meaning that she guessed fits into the story line, or if she can pronounce it correctly. For each correct pronunciation or meaning, she'll get a taffy! At the end of the reading we'll go through the lesson of the text, and all the new words she learned throughout. Hopefully, she'll feel accomplished with her newly acquired knowledge, and I'll be happy with her new level of reading!

    2. Faigy, you did a great job on you lesson plan! I love the idea of having her circle all the words she doesn't know. It's a great way to see where she's up to.
